What Is It
At BehindLogin, we’ve developed a practical way to assess how well digital product features actually work in the hands of users. The Benchmark Framework gives product teams a clear view of whether a feature is easy to find, simple to use, and genuinely valuable to users.
What It Does
The framework scores any feature out of 100 based on five core experience criteria:
-
Findability & Navigation: Can users easily find and access it?
-
Visual Design & Accessibility: Is it visually clear and accessible to all?
-
Copy & Communication: Do users know what it is, how to use it, and why it matters?
-
Interaction & Usability: Is it smooth, intuitive, and efficient to use?
-
Maturity & Innovation: Does it go beyond the basics and deliver standout value?
Each area is weighted based on its impact on real user experience, with the highest weighting given to interaction and usability.
How It Works
We answer 50 structured questions per feature, ten for each of the five criteria. Each question focuses on observable, user-facing elements. The answers are scored, weighted, and combined to produce a total score out of 100.
This method allows for detailed analysis, benchmarking, and comparison between providers, product lines, or time periods.
Why You Can Trust It
The framework is:
-
Objective: Scores are based on observable behaviour, not personal opinion.
-
Robust: Covers every stage of the experience, from entry point to action.
-
Consistent: Uses the same criteria, questions, and scoring scale across features and clients.
-
Transparent: Every score can be traced back to a clear rationale.
What You Get
The output is more than a number. It gives you a focused readout on:
-
What’s working well.
-
What’s missing or causing friction.
-
Where you stand in the market.
-
What to fix or elevate next.
You can use it to prioritise enhancements, guide roadmaps, or demonstrate competitive edge, and because it’s built to be repeatable, you can track progress over time or apply it across products and teams.
