NatWest’s ‘Credit Score’ Feature

In 2023, NatWest introduced its Credit Score feature, ‘Know Your Credit Score’, allowing users to check their credit score for free, powered by TransUnion International UK Limited.

This feature is part of a growing trend among financial apps to offer credit score monitoring, with similar services available from competitors such as Monzo and Revolut. However, NatWest’s app stands out with comprehensive features and accessibility which these competitors fail to reach.

The tour reduces user worries by clearly explaining that checking their credit score in the app won’t affect it. It’s reassuring enough to motivate users to ‘get started’.

Big bold circles, bright colours, fun iconography, and panels are used effectively to break up information, making it easier to scan and quickly locate key details. This thoughtful design enhances usability by presenting information in a clear and accessible way.

The score details are impressive, offering insights like “What’s impacting your score,” “What to focus on,” and “What’s working well”—a practical stop, start, and go approach. The advice is genuinely helpful and actionable which is informative for the user and gives them clear guidance on what to do to improve their situation!

The credit score predictor is a function that let’s the user project different credit scores to plan improvements based on the use of different things, e.g., Credit card, Loan, Mortgage, and Electoral register status.

The function is spread across four screens with clear instructions and intuitive navigation. This makes it easy for users to complete the process without difficulty, offering a supportive and seamless experience.

The user experience with NatWest’s Credit Score feature empowers customers to understand and improve their credit score, enabling more informed financial decisions. NatWest sets itself apart by offering practical, actionable insights like “What’s impacting your score” and “What’s working well,” motivating users to take immediate steps to improve their financial health.

In contrast, Monzo’s credit score feature provides users with their score and a basic explanation, but lacks a detailed breakdown of factors affecting the score, personalised advice, or predictions on how financial decisions could influence future scores—features that NatWest includes. Similarly, Revolut offers credit score monitoring but places it behind a paywall, making NatWest’s free, user-friendly approach even more appealing.

This positions NatWest as a standout provider by offering both value and accessibility.
